Scoring Happiness

(“Scoring Happiness” audio version)

How happy are we? It’s hard to say, especially because happiness can fluctuate, but I did discover three interesting online happiness assessments.

Check This Out:

The first test is the PERMA (an acronym for Positive emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment— the basic dimensions of psychological flourishing). The questionnaire is 23 questions and once you submit your responses, you will receive scores ranging from 0-10 for each pillar along with scores for overall well-being, health, and negative emotions.

The second test is The Authentic Happiness Inventory. It’s a quick set of 24 questions that provides an overall measure of your happiness levels. At the end of the survey you will receive a score between 1 and 5 based on your responses.

The third test is the Character Strengths test. The test comprises 120 questions and takes 30 minutes or so. After taking the test, you will get the ranking of your 24 strengths such as Humor, Kindness, and Self-Regulation.

Try This:

  1. Take one or all three of the assessments to get a baseline score of your happiness.
  2. Then practice gratitude by naming something you are thankful for before going to sleep and upon waking for one entire month.
  3. After one month, revisit the assessment/assessments and see if your happiness improved.
